WHAT IS TURTLE JUNCTION CREATIVES ALL ABOUT?
I’ve had the pleasure of living all across Canada and it has inspired me artistically in ways I can’t even describe! I grew up on the west coast of British Columbia where I was enveloped by ocean, mountains, and forests. The constant balance of Vancouver’s big city life and having nature on my back step gave me an enriched childhood of having the best of both worlds at my fingertips.
In my early 20’s I took the leap and moved to Northern Alberta. I was able to do some pottery and sculpture while I was there, as well as teaching a variety of art classes about making greeting cards, quilling, scrapbooking, and more. The Aurora Borealis created patterns and colours in nature I had never experienced before. To this day it still inspires me with my abstract pieces.
When I moved back to The Sunshine Coast of BC I was instantly pulled back to the forest and the ocean. I took this time to focus on the culinary arts and I revisited my talents from being a baker during university to experiment with new flavours and dishes. The multicultural blend in Vancouver gave me access to ingredients I have had difficulty finding elsewhere.
Fast forward a few years and I made my way to Manitoba. I was able to find time while teaching Kindergarten to narrow my edible creations to cake decorating. I challenged myself with each new dessert to make it more detailed and impressive. Drawing and painting always tried to make appearances, but it wasn’t until I moved to Nova Scotia that my life allowed time to make my art a priority.
I dove headfirst into watercolour. I spent two years working primarily in this medium before taking a sharp turn and immersing myself into abstract acrylic painting. I have been using the past few years to just explore, experiment, and enjoy the process of creating! Now that I’ve had that time, I realize that I need to create in a variety of ways in order to “scratch my artistic itch.”
